Future cities

The concept

I photograph a lot of architecture, but this time I have switched my typical approach to something a little more abstract. A series I am calling future cities, the contemporary buildings with sharp angles and repetition remind me of futuristic movies like Blade Runner and Minority Report. But this wasn’t my intention all along. I bought my daughter a spirograph kit for Xmas, and I started to get sucked into to the repeated patterns and wondered how I might apply this to a photography project. Future cities was born. It is still at the experimental stage, but I am already evolving my process.

All of the images here have started off as one or more photographs, manipulated to create depth and in some instances the impression infinite space. Some of the buildings you may recognise, most of them are based in London, some from Berlin and some from closer to home in Brighton.

This is another on-going project, so I hope to add to this collection in the near future. It has certainly given me plenty of inspiration to create more future cities.

Thanks for taking a look!
