I am a visual person

So I prefer to let the photos speak for themselves. On this basis I am not going to talk about my photography here.

Story time…

You might assume that I grew up with a camera in my hand, or my dad caught the photography bug and passed it on to me; but that’s now how I got into photography. It was 2005, I was studying at University, and my wife’s best friend asked me to photograph her wedding. She didn’t pick me because I was an excellent portrait photographer, but because I had a ‘fancy camera’. I strongly recommended that she hire a professional wedding photographer, her response was “either you take the photographs or there won’t be any wedding photos.” I couldn’t let this happen.

Being the type of person I am, I either do things properly or not at all. I was all-in. I read the manual to my camera, learning every single feature and menu. I read photography magazines, books and watched as many tutorials as I could get my eyes on. Changing the settings to achieve the perfect photograph became second nature to me, I could find my way around the camera in the dark.

The next chapter of this story involves investment. I upgraded my camera, my lenses, learnt how to use off camera flash, purchased books on posing the bride and groom….and then it happened.

They split up. The wedding never happened.

I was then stuck with this hobby, all this equipment and skill, with no real purpose. But I am glad to have discovered photography when I did, and I certainly make the most of this skill set now.

And don’t worry, she remarried many years later and hired a professional photographer!

An about section of a website wouldn’t be complete without some information about me. In a similar fashion to a first date.....here are all the best bits about me.

I am a husband to a beautiful red-head, a father to three gorgeous girls (two of which are identical twins), I am a fully qualified Architect and an all-round addict to creating. I don't mind what I am creating, as long as I am making something.
